Janet Walentiny
Janet Walentiny has long explored collage as her primary medium. Utilizing a variety of materials her past work focused more on pure abstraction and the recycling of discarded paper. But gradually she began to include photo imagery while also reducing the dimensions of her work. The latter element was important for enhancing the intimacy to draw out the individual personalities of her clientele. Of her art she says, I love the tactility of paper in all its varied physicality of texture and color. It is in this medium that I am able to best express myself.
Janet looks upon her art as crafting an array of intimate ‘post-cards’ from life whether of her own experience or that of others. Using a combination of materials including paint, assorted papers and photo reproductions her juxtapositions present highly personalized imagery. The figurative visuals, in combination with the colors and forms, present a highly expressive sense of multi-layered time. The end result portrays a totality of a life that is just not possible in any other way.
Janet holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree which she received from Syracuse University in 1982 where she focused on printmaking. In 1987 she received a Masters of Professional Studies degree from Pratt Institute. In addition to making art Janet works as an Art Therapist in Orange, New Jersey.
